Community outreach
The world's problems in recent decades have made it increasingly evident that science does not generate the desired social benefits if the community does not participate in the scientific process or if the results do not reach the people. For this reason, the final two days of the program are dedicated to community outreach activities.
Potluck and quick presentations
This activity aims to transmit to the community the preliminary knowledge generated and the experience in the field, both from a scientific and emotional point of view.
For this, the community is invited to a free event in a central location in the city of Puerto Natales. In 2022 and 2023, the event had a great turnout, filling the venue with 50+ people. We thank the community there for receiving us and allowing us to work on their land. Then, each student makes a quick presentation of two to three minutes recounting her or his experience in fieldwork. The presentations can focus on explaining scientific concepts and results or simply on the experience of living and working in the field.
After the presentations, the participants are invited to share food cooked or baked by the students as a gesture of gratitude to the community and to create a relaxed dialogue between the students and the participants. In previous years, this dialogue was achieved, as most attendees stayed to chat in small groups, including students and academics.
It is important to highlight that this activity seeks to leave behind the paradigm of one-way presentations, in which the "experts" present to the community. We want it also to be an instance for scientists to learn about the problems and interests of the community. And which of those problems need the support and special attention of the scientific community.

Presentation of final results
After each student delivers reports with the results of their research projects (March following the campaign), internal meetings are held in May to show and discuss the results, and to practice for the public final presentations. The final presentations are shown to the community and park rangers of Magallanes during two virtual sessions in June. The community of Puerto Natales has been very participative in these final presentations to learn more about the results of the work carried out.
