Patagonian Icefields Research Program
Education, science and community

ANNOUNCEMENT (November 18 22:00 h)

The PIRP 2025 team is healthy and in high spirits. We received messages from friends and family, worried about the high winds in the region over the last few days. Our camp is sheltered in a beautiful forest, and we had no issues at all with the windstorm. The science program is going well, and we look forward to more amazing experiences in the following days.

"It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves."

Sir Edmund Hillary

A small group of scientists and mountain guides with extensive fieldwork experience in Patagonia and a strong desire to empower the new generations.

"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."

Albert Einstein

An experiential approach to living and working in the pristine Patagonian glaciers. Learning safety, leave no trace and teamwork. As well as how to use the main tools
in field glaciology.

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."

Confucious

We believe in learning by doing. More than half of this 20-day program is for the students to use learned skills and develop their own research projects.

We will exercise also how to share the acquired experiences and knowledge. Students will present their work to the local community through presentations and casual talks with the excuse of sharing a bite.

"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it."
