We are grateful to see the Patagonian Icefields Research Program (PIRP) featured in the recent article “Classroom on Ice: The Patagonian Icefield Research Program”, published by the Cryospheric Sciences Division of the European Geosciences Union.

The authors beautifully capture the essence of PIRP as a true classroom without walls—where science, collaboration, and personal growth come together in one of the most remote regions of the world.

More than a field course, PIRP is an immersive experience that brings together students, researchers, and guides to learn through exploration, shared challenges, and meaningful connection. The article highlights not only the scientific work carried out on the icefields, but also the strong sense of community and purpose that defines the program.

We would like to sincerely thank the authors for sharing such a thoughtful and inspiring perspective, and for helping bring the spirit of PIRP to a wider audience.
